The costs of car crime On average the owner of a stolen vehicle is out of pocket by £470 (that is if the vehicle is insured and it is later traced). If the vehicle is not traced (40% aren't) the average cost to the owner is £2190. These are the financial costs but car crime has far more serious consequences people get hurt, sometimes disabled for life. Even more devastating is the fact that people are killed. Very often these are just ordinary people who are going about their daily life without hurting anyone. How we aim to help Steer Clear provides interactive workshops and courses aimed at preventing car crime and promoting safe driving. We work with young people aged between 8 and 19 in mainstream schools, youth clubs and holiday clubs, as well as out of school and special needs establishments. Some of the programmes we offer can and have been accredited via ASDAN and other external evaluators. We regularly run courses for juvenille offenders on behalf of Youth Offending Teams and regularly work in conjunction with Connections and Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP).
